Demonstrations are part of agenda of subversion, warns Chapo

Maputo (AIM): Mozambican President Daniel Chapo believes that the mass demonstrations and rioting that the country has been facing since the general elections held on 9 October are part of an “agenda of subversion aimed at destabilization.”

Chapo promises to slim down government

Agencia de Información de Mozambique (AIM) January 16, 2025, Maputo (AIM): In his first speech as head of state, Mozambique’s new President, Daniel Chapo, on Wednesday promised to slim down the government, reducing the number of ministries and scrapping the central level State Secretariats.
Speaking in Independence Square, in central Maputo, immediately after his investiture, Chapo said these changes alone will save 17 billion meticais (about 266 million US dollars) a year.

President-Elect Chapo calls for reconciliation and recovery

Maputo (AIM): Mozambican President-Elect and General Secretary of the ruling Frelimo Party, Daniel Chapo urged his fellow Mozambicans to understand that the path to peace, success and progress necessarily involves national unity, reconciliation and economic recovery to overcome not only the damage caused by the destruction and looting in late December, but also the structural challenges the country has been facing for a long time.
