Haiti: Official tribute ceremony to the late President Jovenel

Port Au Prince (Haití Libre): At the Villa d’Accueil, the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) organized a ceremony of reflection and meditation in memory of President Jovenel Moïse assassinated in his residence on July 7, 2021 at the age of 53.

This ceremony took place in the presence of Prime Minister Garry Conille and his Government, the High Staff of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd’H), Rameau Normil Director General a.i. of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) and other personalities.

During this ceremony, Father Frantznel Limite welcomed in his message the departure of the late Jovenel Moïse.

Edgard Leblanc Fils, President of the CPT, in his speech, invited the entire Nation to honor the memory of the late Jovenel Moïse.

Extracts from the speech: «[…] I humbly bow with a deep feeling of sadness mixed with anguish before the memory of the late President Jovenel Moïse, assassinated on the night of July 6 to 7, 2021, in his private residence at Pèlerin 5 in the commune of Pétion-cille.

On the occasion of the 3rd anniversary of this barbaric act carried out by a commando of Haitian and foreign mercenaries, we are gathered to reflect and reflect on the consequences of this tragic assassination.

[…] If the late President Moïse and his family do not obtain justice, what other ordinary citizen, what Minister, Prime Minister or even President of the Republic will be safe from such a threat? Really no one.

It is therefore up to the Presidential Transitional Council and the administration of Prime Minister Garry Conille to do everything possible to ensure that justice is done to them. It is important that all necessary means be granted to the judge in charge of the case, to the Government Commissioner so that the case is independently pursued and concluded in accordance with the procedures and the law.

[…] In my personal name, in the name of the members of the Presidential Transitional Council, in the name of the Haitian people, I bow once again to the memory of this Head of State who died in atrocious conditions, not yet clarified, and I am committed to advancing the case for the trial of his assassination so that justice triumphs so that the Haitian Nation is freed from this ignoble burden that it bears without deserving it.

In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to salute the members of the President’s family who were unable this year to pay homage to him and pay their respects at his mausoleum. May they find Peace within themselves and among themselves, in harmony and reconciliation, for the eternal rest of the soul of the deceased.»

Former Prime Minister Joseph JOUTHE (2020-2021) : «This July 7, 2024 sadly recalls three years since the brutal and summary execution of President Jovenel Moïse, in his home. This tragic event remains an indelible stigma in our collective memory, and the pain of this immense loss persists in a republic which is dispersing into the limbo of division…

[…] As a citizen and former Prime Minister, I will continue, tirelessly, to demand the judicial truth on this mega-case which is close to my heart. Doing justice, in this criminal saga, is not only a question of legality, but also a moral and historical obligation to honor the memory of a head of State, President Jovenel Moïse. Restoring public confidence in our justice system depends on it.»

Former Prime Minister Evans Paul (2015-2016): «July 7, 2024 marks the third anniversary of the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, 54th President of the Republic of Haiti, which occurred on July 7, 2021 at his private residence, at the age of 53.

I pay tribute to this umpteenth martyr of the political struggle in Haiti and deplore the failure of state authority. On this occasion, we salute the memory of the 54th President of Haiti, Jovenel Moïse, and renew our condolences to his family. We have a special thought for the other Haitian heads of state assassinated in the exercise of their functions before him.
