The survey, conducted earlier this month, showed Harris leading Trump among Asian American voters, 66 percent to 28 percent. About 6 percent of respondents said they would support another candidate or were undecided.
According to the data, Harris’s current lead shows a big jump from President Biden’s 15-point lead against the GOP nominee based on an earlier survey. In that poll, conducted in April and May, Biden was leading Trump among Asian American voters, 46 to 31 percent.
The polling also showed that 62 percent of Asian American voters have a favorable view of Harris, compared to 35 percent who said they view her unfavorably. In the earlier survey from April and May, 44 percent had a favorable view of Harris compared to 42 percent who had an unfavorable view.
The latest data shows 28 percent of the voting bloc said they have a favorable opinion of Trump, compared to 70 percent who said they have an unfavorable view of the former president. In the earlier survey, 34 percent had a favorable view of him compared to 64 percent who had an unfavorable opinion.
When it comes to Harris’s running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), 56 percent of Asian American voters have a favorable view of him, compared to 18 percent who have an unfavorable opinion, according to the poll. Roughly 26 percent said they don’t know enough to have an opinion of the Democratic vice-presidential nominee.
For Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance (R), Trump’s running mate, 21 percent had a favorable opinion of him, compared to 58 percent that viewed him unfavorably. Around 22 percent said they didn’t know enough to have an opinion.
Data also showed that Asian American voters are more likely to say they are sure they will vote this election cycle, compared to data from the earlier survey.
In the most recent poll, there was a nearly 70-point jump in Asian American voters who said they were “absolutely certain” they will vote in November. About 77 percent of the voting bloc said they are “absolutely certain” they will vote this year.
That is down 5 points from data from 2020, however, which showed that 82 percent of Asian American voters said they were “absolutely certain,” according to the pollsters.
Respondents said Harris’s identity as a woman is more important than her identity as an Asian Indian or South Asian. About 38 percent of Asian Americans said her being a woman was “extremely” or “very” important to them, compared to 27 percent who said the same of her Asian Indian or South Asian identity.
