Among the six ministers who recovered their posts are those of Interior and Defense, ministries that are not part of the country’s current crisis, since last month, due to popular protests demanding the president’s resignation and accusing his ministers of ineptness and corruption.

   The Finance Ministry, vital for its influence on the government’s economic decisions, remains empty.

   The mowing down of the ministerial council, one of several appeasement measures decreed by President Ruto during the crisis, was also criticized by the opposition, who considers it “a cosmetic measure”.

   Generally accepted statistics put the number of dead at 50 and 400 injured during clashes between demonstrators and police, who used tear gas to disperse the protests and arrested hundreds of people during the rallies.
