The Somali delegation held discussions with Ethiopia’s delegation led by Ambassador Misganu Arga, State Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The visit, aimed at solidifying the Ankara Agreement and further strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
On the occasion, Ambassador Misganu Arga highlighted that this working visit by the Somali delegation marks the first such engagement following the signing of the Ankara Agreement.
He affirmed Ethiopia’s unwavering commitment to the full implementation of the Ankara Agreement.
He further stated that continuous dialogue will be maintained to bolster bilateral relations through the practical application of the Ankara Agreement.
Emphasizing the interconnectedness of peace in Somalia and Ethiopia, Misganu reiterated the continued and strengthened cooperation in combating terrorism and promoting regional peace.
Ali Omar, State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia, characterized the discussions with his counterpart as highly productive.
He noted that this visit is his first since the Ankara Agreement and underscored that the discussions focused on mechanisms for the effective implementation of the accord.
It is to be recalled that an agreement was reached on December 11, 2024 through Turkish mediation to resolve the previously existing differences between Ethiopia and Somalia.
The Ankara Agreement was subsequently signed by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia.
