Haiti Libre January 4, 2025, Port Au Prince (Haiti Libre): In 2024, the Directorate General of Migration (DGM) returned to their country of origin 276,215 Haitians (deportation and repatriation), who were in an irregular migratory situation in the Dominican territory.

1st quarter (January-March): 48,344 Haitians (17.5%);
2nd quarter (April-June) 62,446 Haitians (22.6%);
3rd quarter (July-September): 71,414 Haitians (25.8%);
4th quarter (October-December): 94,223 Haitians (34.1%) since the decision of October 3rd, 2024 of the National Security and Defense Council to return to their country of origin up to 10,000 Haitians by week in an irregular migratory situation to deal with an «excess» of Haitian migrants in the Dominican Republic according to Homero Figueroa, government spokesperson.
Despite the testimonies, complaints and criticisms of human rights organizations on the violations of their rights suffered by deported Haitians, the DGM affirms that these returns of illegal migrants to their country of origin are carried out in compliance with human rights and international agreements to which the country is a signatory, in accordance with the policy and directives of President Luis Abinader.
Furthermore, the DGM announced that in the last quarter of 2024, a comprehensive review of the organization and procedures of the DGM was carried out with a view to a reorganization so that it can comply with the mission assigned to it by the Constitution and the law.
In addition to the reorganization of the DGM, collaboration will be increased with the Ministries of Defense, Labor, Foreign Affairs, Interior and Police, Agriculture, the National Children’s Council, the Central Electoral Commission and international organizations, with representation related to immigration issues.
