According to him, the relation between Ethiopia and Somalia has improved after the Ankara agreement that was followed by discussion between high level officials of the two countries and exchange of visits.
In that regard, he recalled the visits of a Somalia delegation led by Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation State Minister Ali Mohammed Omar to Addis Ababa, and Ethiopia’s delegation led by Defense Minister Aisha Mohammed to Mogadishu.
During the visits, officials of the two countries have held fruitful discussions, including the strengthening of bilateral relations and cooperation particularly in the fight against the terrorist Al Shabab.
The officials have reached consensus to cooperate for the successful implementation of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission (AUSSOM), the spokesperson elaborated.
In his weekly briefing, Nebiat also spoke about preparations to the upcoming AU Summit and current geopolitical issues in the Horn of Africa.
With respect to the upcoming AU Summit, Nebiat confirmed the completion of all necessary preparations and underscored the importance of the summit for Ethiopia by emphasizing its potential to enhance the country’s political and economic standing on the African continent and to improve its image.
The spokesperson also mentioned the recent visit of an Ethiopian delegation led by Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos to Djibouti where he discussed with bilateral and regional issues, including cooperation in the fight against Al Shabab, expansion of oil pipeline, regional connectivity, and other common issues.
The visit was aimed to further solidify strategic relations between the two countries, focusing on enhancing economic integration and fostering stronger people-to-people ties.
