President Abbas marks 60th anniversary of Palestinian Revolution

Ramallah (WAFA): In a solemn address marking the 60th anniversary of the Palestinian revolution, Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, emphasized that the Palestinian revolution, launched by the Fatah movement to reclaim the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people under the umbrella of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), remains a defining moment in modern history.

President Abbas highlighted the significance of this anniversary, noting that the revolution unified the Palestinian people and safeguarded their Palestinian identity. The president pointed out that the revolution had led to the sacrifice of tens of thousands of martyrs, prisoners and wounded heroes, all striving toward preserving Jerusalem, its identity, heritage and its sanctities.

The president stressed that the Palestinian revolution brought the Palestinian cause back to the regional and international agenda, transforming it from a refugee issue into a political struggle of a people fighting for their freedom and independence.

The president further emphasized that the significance of the Palestinian revolution lies in its emergence from an independent Palestinian national decision, aimed at liberating the national will of the Palestinian people and their independent national decision from any guardianship, domination, or subordination.

President Abbas clarified that the leaders who made the decision to launch the revolution were fully aware of the significance of the Palestinian people having the power to make their own decisions, viewing it as the sole path to liberation, return and the exercise of their right to self-determination freely on their homeland.

Thanks to the revolution, President Abbas continued, Fatah succeeded in leading the PLO to become the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people and the internationally recognized political entity. This significant national achievement, the president noted, preserved the independent national Palestinian decision through a long and arduous struggle, marked by immense sacrifices made by the Palestinian people in pursuit of their national cause.

The president stressed that the Palestinian people, who were displaced and driven from their land by the occupiers, have proven through their resilience that they cannot be erased or have their legitimate national rights, based on United Nations resolutions, ignored.

President Abbas affirmed that the Palestinian people will remain steadfast on the land of their ancestors, and will not leave or succumb to plans aimed at their forced displacement from their homeland.

The President also underscored the urgency of halting the brutal war in the Gaza Strip, describing what is happening in Gaza as a shameful stain on the international community. He called for an immediate cessation of the brutal war, stressing that any effort to achieve security and stability in the region must begin with halting the Israeli aggression on Gaza and implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2735, which ensures Israel’s full withdrawal from Gaza and the return of full Palestinian sovereignty over the Strip, as is the case in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

Abbas also called for putting an end to the ongoing attacks by Israeli forces and the terrorism of colonists in the West Bank and against Islamic and Christian holy sites.

He emphasized that the time has come for the Palestinian people to achieve their freedom and independence, through the end of the occupation and the establishment of an independent state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. It is unjust for the Palestinian people to remain the only nation in the world still living under occupation.

President Abbas affirmed that the Palestinian people, who yearn for freedom and independence, are most in need of security and stability to live in their homeland with dignity, just like other peoples of the world.

Affirmed that the establishment of a Palestinian state and its full membership in the United Nations, along with recognition from all nations of its statehood, represent the best solution to ensure the security and stability of all countries and peoples in the Middle East.

The President also reaffirmed commitment to continuing efforts to unify the Palestinian land and people under the leadership of the PLO, the legitimate and sole representative of the Palestinian people and stressed that Gaza is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian Territory, alongside the West Bank and Jerusalem.

In closing, Abbas paid tribute to the martyrs of the Palestinian revolution and the Palestinian people, particularly the founding leaders, including the late iconic leader Yasser Arafat, who made the historic decision to launch the revolution.

The President extended his greetings and respect to the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and the families of martyrs and prisoners, assuring them that their sacrifices would never be in vain. The Palestinian people will continue their struggle until they achieve their legitimate goals and secure their freedom and national independence, he affirmed.

President Abbas concluded by stating: «Long live the Palestinian people. Glory to our righteous martyrs. Freedom to our brave prisoners. A speedy recovery to our heroic wounded. And it is a revolution until victory… until victory.»
