Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks while attending the fourth ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Forum in Beijing.
Rejecting camp confrontation and advocating openness and win-win cooperation, China-LAC cooperation has set a new example for building a new type of international relations and provided new impetus for cooperation in the Global South, Wang said.
He called on both sides, as members of the Global South, to jointly safeguard their legitimate rights and interests.
Wang called for supporting each other’s core interests. China firmly supports LAC countries in maintaining their independence and self-reliance and exploring paths of modernization suited to their national conditions, he said, urging efforts to oppose power politics and interference in internal affairs.
He expressed his belief that LAC countries will continue to adhere to the one-China principle and support China’s just positions.
The foreign minister also called for deepening practical economic and trade cooperation and conducting security cooperation with LAC countries.
China is ready to maintain close cooperation in various fields with LAC countries within frameworks like the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Development Initiative, elevate the level of connectivity and maintain the stability of industrial and supply chains, Wang said.
He also pledged to jointly combat all forms of terrorism and deepen exchanges and dialogues in the field of cybersecurity with LAC countries.
China will continue to enhance the dialogue of civilizations between the two sides and expand cultural and people-to-people exchanges to consolidate the public opinion foundation for China-LAC friendship, said Wang.
The Chinese foreign minister said China will practice true multilateralism with LAC countries and jointly safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order based on international law.
Commending the vital role of the forum and achievements made over the past decade, foreign ministers of LAC countries attending the forum said they look forward to making full use of this important platform to seize new opportunities for China’s high-quality development and expand all-round cooperation to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.
LAC countries will firmly uphold the one-China principle, uphold the basic norms governing international relations, adhere to multilateralism and work together to build a peaceful, just, green, inclusive and sustainable future, they said.
